"Hi Guys,
2 games and again 2 victories!!! Yeahh
The second game was amazing..6 players and the best motivation ever!! A team in front of us quite unusual, as they were strong and tough guy. Completely ready to beat us.
But come on… the cream of European handball was on the field…
We knew it would have been hard so we decided to impress them by playing hard handball with tough contact in defense all together, as I like to say you come one times but no two…quick move and strong on our legs...on top of that a really good David in the cage saved us many times. In attack hard to make strategy, the only and the best was quick pass then boum boum jump in the defense and being aggressive in the contact…it worked as they got many 2 minutes (ok I took few punch in the face and bleed, so I switched to bull dog style )…
Good point for us Jeppe blood got no more trace of vodka thanks to first game J , which allow him to make good shoots at the hip and score. On our last attack good play which finished with a 7m that Ferdi put into the goal. Then this is how we won this crazy game…
Hope you liked the story, I hope you will all come.
I want to finish first this year
Ps; I got only a yellow card this time
Thomas"
"Hi all
It’s correct as Nicolas wrote. Two victories during Sunday.
First one was a good game – with full team (7). Result 7-15.
The second match against NS Boys with only 6 players was a hard one.
Good team play and excellent motivation. The status was 7-7 with one minute left. Then we got a penalty that Ferdinand nicely put to the goal and sat the end result 7-8.
Hope that more of you can make it for the next match day 6th of July.
So far it’s Simon, Thomas C, Nikolai, Thomas J, Jeppe and David = 6 players
Need some more.
| Sunday 6th July | 09.40 – 10.10 am |
| Sunday 6th July | 01.00 – 01.30 pm |
I’m traveling that week, Ferdinand has moved back to

ohh i would have liked to see this match. Sure there were great games. why are the results so low, didn't you play 60 min. ?
have to see you when i'm in malaysia once again=)
the thing about m'sian handball is that there currently isn't any hard and fast rule that applies. last year the league followed the usual 60 minutes per match until the finals where it was cut to 20 minutes per match.
this year the length of matches changed again to 20 minutes per match if i'm not mistaken ( i haven't been able to join the team yet ). reason given was to keep the matches fast and exciting.
i'm sure many people would have different opinions on this change. but most wouldn't have the experience to see the significance of it.
yup, do look me up when you're back. we welcome any interested players. might be able to get you to play a few matches with us too.
sadly the league doesnt get much coverage with the exception from Malay Mail
so do you play to games in a row or to you make a pause?
hehe when i'm in malaysia i'm only for 3 to 5 weeks there but i would like to join one of your training if you would agree, but i won't come back till next summer:(
hi there rockin' chains,
are you one of the team members? =P
i personally think more can b done for handball coverage in m'sia.
but before we have more coverage, a few aspects need to be improved on.
one of the things that can be improved is that there needs to be a proper referee's association. where refereeing standards are monitored and a where a few people experienced in handball sit on the panel. this is to not only ensure that there is consistent refereeing but also to PROTECT the referees in case of dispute.
it will also allow a venue for complaints against the referees by clubs rather than causing a ruckus on the field.
there have been many instances in the m'sia league where players start causing trouble because they weren't happy with the refereeing.
in my opinion, i don't think there is a distinction between tough defense and dangerous defense by the referees currently. ( refer to my old posts ). and when this happens, players are not sure what is allowed and what is pure danger.
Referees need to improve...some of them can't even decide what decision is to be made...
This is going to be a lengthy one, but:
Hello there pyh, first of all, I'm glad I found your blog! It's a good job you're doing and I can finally find some news about the local handball scene - I honestly didn't even know there was one and I got very excited when I found it out. I used to play female handball in school and for my district in my home state, but I'm currently based in Penang (USM, to be precise) as an undergrad since mid last year and there's no handball court let alone a team to train and play with. During my recent semester break, I spent some time (downloading and) watching the matches from the Women's World Championship which was held last December, and my interest in the sport resurfaced, especially now that the Olympics is just around the corner (I'm rooting for Norway). I also follow the Women's Danish League and the Women's Norwegian League, as well as the the EHF Women's Champions League.
I have not seen any local matches - I would love to! - but I've read your frustration several times being mentioned on your blog about the poor quality of the defense and the refereeing against the defense-work. My, my... if only they see how the ladies do it in Scandinavia and Europe - and we're only talking about the ladies, not yet the men!
I just like you to know that I admire your effort to promote the sport, and I am passionate as well about handball - I just don't know how to contribute although I really would love to! I think a lot can be done to improve not just the playing quality of the players - firstly, I think we will need taller, fitter players, and we haven't even touched on tactics, technical skills and team work - but also the management, coaching and health team. I feel there's so much I would like to do, but I am not sure how and when to approach who or what.
I have emailed the MAHF through the email that was provided on the Asian Handball Fedreration site, but I am not sure who the email is forwarded to, and I have yet to receive a reply too. In my email, I had asked about the development of the women's handball in Malaysia because the Asian Women's Championship will be in Thailand this December and I am wondering if Malaysia will be playing. Do we even have a proper national team at the moment (both men and women)?
I think I would like to discuss more about the standard of the local handball scene with you if you have the time and interest for that - so I really hope to hear from you.
Sorry for the length of this comment, I hope I didn't waste your time with it.
Thanks!
Hello Tina,
Glad to read your comment. =)
Where is your home state?
I was based in Penang for the last 3 years completing my medical studies in Penang General.
I was looking for an avenue to train too. There actually is a team in USM. For both Men's and Women's. Well, until last year that is. And they participate in the MASUM ( M'sian University Games ). I'm not sure when they train now, or if there still is a team, but I've joined them a couple of times last year.
Yup, lots can be done to bring up the level of handball in this country.
If you would really like to get in touch with someone from the MAHF, do let me know. I can introduce you to Mr. Ng Num Thiam. He is the current chairperson of the M'sian Handball League.
Again, good to hear from you. Keep in touch. I'll try to answer some of your questions in my next post.
PYH,
I'm originally from Sarawak. =)
I didn't know there's a USM team - I had tried to check it up with the Sport Department, but they seem to only have a handball field (for field handball) and no court, so I had assumed that they didn't have a team for indoor handball. (Where do they practise?) There isn't any announcement for the varsity team try-outs either, so maybe they're nonexistent now?
And yes, I would love to get in touch with someone from MAHF. You've mentioned Mr Ng Num Thiam several times in your blog, and it seemed to me that he is the main man behind a lot of the things that the MAHF is doing. I'd definitely like to hear from him what MAHF has planned for the near future.
So, thank you very much for your response, and I look forward to hear from you soon.
hello tina,
Sarawak - Kuching?
Do check out today's star metro. There is a write up on the recently concluded handball league. =)
PYH, I'm from Serian, not sure if you've heard of it, it's a town about 60km from Kuching, but I normally say I'm from Kuching anyway, because it's not that far and I used to spend half the week in the city.
I didn't manage to get Monday's paper, it was way past mid-day when I checked your blog, and the papers were all sold out - but I managed to read the online version of it, though, so thanks for the head's up. =)
Any news about up-coming local handball events?
haha I've been to Kuching a few times. And to Serian and Sri Aman too. I've got good friends in Kuching. And I like the place a lot.
I've been a bit slack in updating this blog lately. Hoping to do at least a short write-up on the recently concluded National League.
Just that I've been pretty busy so far. Waiting to get my hospital posting. Getting my medical check-up done etc.
I'm off to climb Gunung Tahan this coming week. So you won't be hearing any news from here for about a week or so.
I think there should be a tournament in Sept/Oct. Will update when I get more news. =)

Hi PYH,
I would like to contact the person in charge of MAHF, since the e-mail that I found on the Asian Handball website now seems to be invalid. Please feel free to contact me with any info you have at bearf3@gmail.com. Like Tina, your other commenter, I'm interested in taking part in Handball practices for women's teams around the Selangor area (I've read somewhere that Handball is certainly played in these neck of the woods). Although I wouldn't mind traveling a bit further to KL to catch Handball games being played there.
I was actually a bit surprised that any Handball at all was being played in Malaysia. Now after the Olympics, I'm keen on learning more of and about this great sport.
Please e-mail me at the address I mentioned above. I don't want to harass the comment box here :P
Thank you
